Back home
Boy, it's been one awesome trip. As soon as I collect my thoughts I will try to put this amazing experience down in writing...
For now, amuse yourself with some great quotes:
Younes: "Damn, I can't stand all this PDA around here!"
Michal: "Yeah, let's go over there and tell them it's wrong."
PDA = Public Display of Affection
-Younes, Egyptian trainee, and Michal, Slovakian trainee in Brasil, on seeing dozens of couple making out in a park on a fine Sunday
Random girlfriend of some Brasilian friend of a friend of mine: "Oh my god she knew how to say tchau!"
-translated from Portuguese; reaction from a girl on seeing me saying bye to a group of friends in a bar
Mother of an AIESECer in Curitiba: "Wow I could not imagine you are Canadian"
-her reaction of seeing I have "pointy eyes" (completed with hand gestures to make her point) and that I am Canadian
Mao: "There are some major pronunciation differences in Spanish from Portuguese. Let's say- for example- Eu quero maracuja- we say Yo quiero maracuja, pronuncing the j like Jah instead of sha like in Portuguese."
Me: "Oh."
Mao: "It's like this- YO QUIERO MARACUJA!!!!" (practically in a scream)
-on the subtle nuances between the Iberian languages
Mao: "One time I farted in public and it was so strong that all these couples around me ran away covering their nose. IT. WAS. AWESOME."
-on farting
Brasilian child at the bus stop: "ahhhhhh.....Japonesa!"
-Sweetie, I am Chinese.
Jonas: "So what do you think of Brasilian men?"
-my first week in Brasil and right after being hustled into dancing forro in the AIESEC conference. Forro includes a lot of legs in well, not your typical body "hollows". Forgive me for saying that. Well Jonas, to answer your question, you lot are hot. H.O.T.
Random guys on the streets: "Sa-yo-na-ra....oooh"
-fuck off. I am Chinese.
Me: "Boa tarde, voce sabe que cade e o correio?"
Good afternoon, do you know where the postal office is? (I pronounced it like Co-lei-o here)
Some lady: "Que?"
Me: "Co-lei-o?"
Some lady: "Oh, Cor-hei-o!"
Me: "Ah sim. nao falo muito de portugues" (dishing out standard reply)
-In the shitty Sao Paulo international Airport
Max: "Eloquent? Stop throwing big words at me, Rita."
-when both of us are on gmail, chatting
Me: "Younes, someday you'll marry this petit brunette who has curly hair. You'll have three boys and a girl and you'll treat her like a princess. Mark my words."
Younes: "WTF? A BRUNETTE?"
Michal: "Why didn't you say he'll marry some blue-eyed blonde with legs up to here? That's the type he likes." (Hands go to chestal region to indicate potential length of said blonde bombshell wife)
-bullshit and fake fortune telling in Parque Barigui
Eu te amo, Brasil. Vou voltar, sim!

I actually undestand you..
The brazilian are so funny people ..!
Many times they confused me with Bolivia!!!!!
-Ahh! Boliviana, seu Presidente tá muito maluco..
-Is my President so mad??? (mmmm Let me see, I dont think so..but, why do you say that?)
-Eh! tudo o problema com o PETROBRAS e com a gente.. Sim, ele, Evo Morales!
-Damn it!! AGAIN, EVO MORALES is the President of Bolivia... I´m from COLOMBIA!!! Do you remember?
hehehehehe
Many Many times... but.. at the end.. was the best experience I´ve lived!
Any way, Eu amo Brasil.. !!
Com muitas saudades tambem para vocé
All the best for you..
Ale.
Hey!!! I never knew that I and Michal remind you that much with Lorel and Hardy or the Stooges or what so ever makes all our simple everyday conversations sound so funny for you.. I'm flattered though.. I wish I could make you laugh more.. but next time don't broadcast stuff about my female preferences... maybe the brunettes now would think they don't have a chance! ;P... well.. there aren't a lot of girls trying to get a piece of me anyway :D.
Rita!!
Obrigada pelos parabéns! :)
Espero que tu tenha gostado da tua experiência no Brasil e que tenha aproveitado ao máximo!!
Esperamos tua volta ;)
Beijos!!

FINE!
Haha, I have so much fun reading your entry (PDA is a real hit)!
It must be a heck of an experience in Brazil~
Enjoy your stay in Europe soon =)
Btw, history major, you ARE speaking in a foreign language~
Joana!!!
The eye might desire, the mind might appreciate, but the heart is what loves and you are already in my heart dear.
Joanna and my darling Younes,
with all due respect, my wall is my wall is my wall. converse somewhere else.
JOKING!!!! EU TE AMO!!!
lol... this was too funny! I love your quotes, especially the one about maracuja and the little boy who thought you were Japanese. lol, I understand. It reminds of all the times I found Brazilians that were confused by the fact that I was American, but yet Colombian at the same time. Oh and that one time I met a taxi driver who thought all Colombians were black. hehe, good times.
Anyway I'm a friend of Younes and Jean-Maxime. Here's a good tongue twister you could use for portugues speakers.
"Jugo de naranja en la jarra"
